Stephen + Britton {engagement} :: Atlanta, Ga.

How did you two meet?
Britton: "Stephen and I met through the college ministry spring break mission trip our junior year at Auburn. I thought, 'Who is the cute quiet guy?' We didn’t talk much until we returned to campus, and I was trying to sell philanthropy tickets for a dodge ball tournament. He and his friends made a team to compete. Plus, he had a sweet black lab that reeled me in for quality dog time."

Stephen: "Britton and I met on Amplify 2013 (First Baptist Church of Opelika's college spring break mission trip) while we were both juniors in college at Auburn. We were both assigned to the same group to repaint a fire station in the Port St. Joe area during the week. We interacted some during the painting and the rides to and from the fire station. I remember her being very outgoing and bubbly...and asked a lot of questions. That definitely forced me out of my comfort zone, but I thought it was endearing. After the trip we reconnected back at school, and the rest is history."

What are some things y'all like to do together?
Britton: "We love to hike with each of our dogs-- Lexi and Raisin. We also enjoy traveling and already dreaming about future trips."

Stephen: "Hiking, playing with our dogs (Raisin and Lexi), spending time with friends, skiing, traveling, trying out new breweries, going to the lake and eating pizza-- just to name a few."

How and when did Stephen propose?
Britton: "Stephen’s proposal was beautifully romantic with (the a little touch of 'us.') About a year prior, we were emailing while Stephen was serving in the Navy. He mentioned taking a trip to Europe—I was in! When planning our trip to Italy, he asked me what was I most excited about. Stephen used my top choice by proposing on our gondola ride. I genuinely had no idea in the moment because I was in such awe of the sights. I wondered why he was fidgeting around, but was too distracted to question. After he asked, "Do you think you’d be able to live with my quirks forever?' And my joking reply was, 'Yah, I don’t know, maybe.' I’m sure glad he still had the courage to ask me to marry him!"

Stephen: "We had planned a trip to Europe in November-December of 2018 while I was between duty stations. On the trip, we were planning on going to Zurich, Switzerland and several places in Italy-- including Venice. I thought this would be the perfect place to propose. I carried the ring around hidden in my backpack while we explored the city on November 26th, but I decided to pop the question while we were on a gondola ride...which is not easy to try and get down on one knee on!"

Britton- describe Stephen in three words:
Britton: "Stephen is conscientious, honest and patience. He thinks about all possibilities before making decisions-- including myself. His honesty is authentic and unwavering. Most of all, he is a God-fearing and patient man. I am indescribably thankful for who he is, and who he will be as we grow together as husband and wife."

Stephen-- describe Britton on three words:

Stephen: "Britton is outgoing, loving and beautiful."

Matt + Mary Katherine {engagement} :: Auburn, Ala.

How did you two meet?

Mary Katherine: "Matt and I met through my older brother, Bo, in 2010 at Quixotes. Matt and Bo had recently started a band together, The Bama Gamblers, and I drove from Tuscaloosa to Auburn to watch them play for the first time. I remember immediately thinking he was so cute the first time I saw him. Matt and I became close friends quickly, and once I transferred to Auburn in 2012 we saw each other pretty much everyday. In 2013, we finally stopped trying to convince everyone, including ourselves, that we were just friends and became a couple! A few months later, he bought me our dog, Waylon, and I’ve been in love with him ever since. He’s truly my best friend and my favorite person!"

Matt: "The first time we met was at a bar in Auburn called Quixote’s now referred to
as 'Q’s' by the college kids. I was on stage playing with a band that happened
to have her brother as the bass player. We didn’t really talk that much to each
other that night, but as the band progressed, we started seeing each other
more and more often."

What are some things you two enjoy doing together?
Mary Katherine: "We really love to do anything and everything together! Our favorite thing to do is probably go see live music. We have been to SO many concerts over the past six years. We also love to do anything with Waylon, so we spend lots of time at the park. Matt won’t ever admit it, but he loves watching reality TV with me so we do that together too."

Matt: "One of our favorite things to do together is take Waylon to the park. That’s
where the idea to propose at the park with Waylon there came from. Another
one of our favorite things to do is to watch American Idol while eating dinner
in the bed."

How and when did Matt propose?

Matt: "I proposed on September 30, 2018, at Kiesel Park in Auburn, Al (the same place that our incredible engagement pictures were taken). It was the day before our fifth anniversary and it was about 90 degrees but felt like a 110 to me. We walked our normal route with Waylon (our 5 year old puppy) and I was doing my best to keep my cool when we finally made it to a bench on the back trail of the park. After a couple of minutes of fumbling through my words, I hit one knee and vividly remember MK’s hand shaking furiously as I asked her to marry me. The details get a little fuzzy after that but I’m assuming she said yes since we’re getting married in December!"

Mary Katherine: "We got engaged on September 30, 2018-- also known as the hottest day of the entire year (in my opinion.) We love to take our dog, Waylon, out to Kiesel Park on Sundays to let him run off some energy. That Sunday was like any other Sunday, except I did NOT want to go. It was HOT and we had been to the Auburn game the day before. However, Matt was insisting that we go. We walked our normal route, and I thought Matt was acting totally normal-- other than the fact that he was drenched in sweat. We decided to take a break and sit down on a bench. Of course right when we sit down, Waylon darts into the woods, so I had to go after him. When I came back, Matt was awkwardly standing next to the bench and grabbed my hands. He said a bunch of words that I’m 100% sure he had not rehearsed and finally dropped to one knee and asked me to marry him! I was totally caught off guard. We celebrated that night with our favorites-- Chinese food and Kardashians. Hands down best day of my life and easiest decision I’ve ever made!"

Matt-- describe Mary Katherine in three words:

Matt: "Three words is difficult!

Hilarious-- especially when she’s not trying to be
Bright-- personality-wise and intelligence-wise
Loving-- in order to take care of Waylon and me there has to be a lot
of love there!”

Mary Katherine-- describe Matt in three words:

Mary Katherine: "Kind-- to know Matt truly is to love him. I constantly hear people talk about how kind and considerate Matt is-- and it’s so true. He has the kindest heart and the sweetest soul. Everyone loves him-- my friends love him more than they love me, and I love that! He can talk to anyone and would give you the shirt off his back before you even realized you needed it. He’s never judgmental and is so sweet. He gives the BEST hugs and lights up every room he walks into. I love my 'Mr. Kind Eyes.'

Patient-- Matt is probably the most patient person I have ever met. Trust me when I say that because I test his patience on a daily basis. Whether he is teaching guitar lessons at work or simply being a friend, he is patient and understanding. He is the definition of a partner in all aspects-- a shoulder to cry on, a confidence booster and the ultimate listener all while never getting frustrated. He’s my favorite person to talk things through with because he can always help me see things from a different perspective-- and will let me ramble until I run out of energy!

Talented-- Matt is one of the most talented guitar players I’ve ever seen! Every time he plays, there are literally groups of people standing in front of him staring in awe. There was even one time where the crowd started chanting his name (you know he loved that!) I see his face truly light up with joy when he’s playing guitar and seeing him so genuinely happy makes me so happy. The passion he has for playing guitar is contagious, and I love watching him be so incredibly dedicated to something. I am so thankful for Matt, ALL of his guitars, and that Bama Gamblers show in 2010 which led me to this man that is 1,000 times better than anything I could have ever imagined!"

Parker + Lexie {engagement} :: Montgomery, Ala.

How did you two meet?
Parker: "We met at Lexie’s sorority formal, but we weren’t each other’s dates. I went with a good friend of mine, and she got set up with one of my fraternity brothers, so we all ended up hanging out all night at the formal. I remember realizing how beautiful she was in her red dress, and I was upset when she went home after the formal instead of hanging out with the group longer. Earlier in the night we had added each other on social media, so we were able to keep communicating and haven’t stopped since."

Lexie: "I met Parker at my sorority’s formal! I was set up with one of his fraternity brothers, and he was the date for one of my sorority sisters. We all ended up riding to formal together, and we immediately hit it off. After formal was over, our group was going back to his fraternity house to hang out, and I decided to go home because I had a big test the following week. Somewhere along the way, we had added each other on Snapchat and just kept talking. I told my mom the next day that I bonded with an aerospace engineer-- little did I know I would be marrying him almost three years later!"

What are some things yall like to do together?
Parker: "We love going to Disney World, golf tournaments, eating good food and just being with each other!"

Lexie: "Parker has a knack for being entertaining even in the most boring of places so it really doesn’t matter what we are doing! He is always up for an adventure, so I am excited to get to experience life with him!"

How and when did Parker propose?
Lexie: "Parker proposed on November 2, 2018! He started work in Orlando during the summer, so he was coming back a lot of weekends for football games. He told me that it would happen before the end of the year, so honestly every time he visited I thought it was going to be the weekend, haha! He really surprised me with how much thought and detail he put into the proposal. He and his mom came up to Auburn on Thursday, and I had no idea they were there. He was telling me lies all along to make me believe that he was still in Orlando, and he even called me to tell me he was going to have to fly up on Saturday before the game so that he could watch his sister cheer at her last football game. Some of my friends were supposed to be coming in to town that weekend too, and he had them tell me they couldn’t come anymore to throw me off. My sister was also in on the scheming, and they came up with a plan for Maddie and me to have Christmas card pictures taken in Auburn on Friday afternoon. I thought this was kind of weird at first, but went with it because my mom really wanted them done. When there was no evidence of a proposal happening at the first place we went for pictures, I really didn’t think it was going to happen. At the second stop, we walked around a corner, and I saw him standing in a gazebo on a pond at Town Creek Park. He had strung the gazebo in string lights and had candles lining the walk way. He asked and I said 'yes!' We went to dinner after the proposal, then when we got back to my apartment he had arranged for our friends and family to be there to celebrate us!"

Parker – describe Lexie in three words.

Parker: "Lexie is sincere, caring and intentional."

Lexie – describe Parker in three words.

Lexie: "Parker is adventurous, patient and kind."

Connor + Maggie {wedding} :: Auburn, Ala.

How did you two meet?

Maggie: "Connor and I met one summer in Auburn when we were at 1716 with mutual friends. Connor worked at home during the summers, but had made a trip down to visit for the weekend. We immediately hit it off as friends. I found Connor to be really fun and laid back. He was almost a little too goofy sometimes-- definitely too goofy to date so I thought-- but I knew there was just something different about him from the get go. It didn't take long to realize that Connor was different that anyone else I'd ever met, and we definitely connected on a different level. All that to say, sometimes you do marry the guy you meet in a bar!"

Connor: "We met at 1716-- a bar in Auburn. We were sitting across the bar from each other. A few friends I was with knew her, so when she looked over at us, I winked at her. She smiled and then I knew I had to go talk to her."

What are some things y'all like to do together?

Maggie: "Living in North Carolina with no close friends or family here, Connor and I have A LOT of time to spend together. We both love being outside and have a shared passion for hunting. We have two yellow labs, and spend a lot of time with them between riding in our '97 Jeep and taking our duck boat out on the river."

Connor: "Literally everything. Well, atleast I like to do everything with Maggie-- I don’t know if she likes to do everything with me (lol). Specifically some of my favorites are: cooking, taking the boat out, going hunting, going to the beach, riding around in our jeep, teaching and learning from each other."

How and when did Connor propose?

Maggie: "Connor proposed at my parents’ farm on September 8, 2018. It was such a special weekend because my dad had planned this huge opening day dove hunt, and we had many friends and family coming down for the 'hunt.' All day, Connor seemed nervous and spent most of the day avoiding me, hanging out with my dad and finding things to do on the farm. Living in North Carolina, we don't see family much so I did appreciate the opportunity to spend some much needed time with my momma. We were all sitting around my kitchen chatting when Con suddenly pops up, grabs my hand and says come on I need to talk to you. He dragged me around the corner of the house, and I knew what was about to happen (mind you - my dad, mom and brother had all spilled the beans at some point that day). Connor proposed with the kindest words under the most gorgeous large shade tree. It was the most heartfelt and 'us' proposal I could imagine. Within minutes, my best friends pulled up the driveway after traveling in from Atlanta and Connor's family drove down from Huntsville to celebrate. We ended the day with a successful dove hunt surrounded by our closest family and friends!"

Connor: "It was the morning of opening day of dove season at the Coosa Rise Farm annual dove shoot (aka The Barlow’s farm). Before guests started arriving, I asked Maggie to come outside real quick. We walked around to the side of the house under a big shade tree that overlooked the front of their farm, and that where I asked Maggie if she would marry me."

Connor--what's one of the things you admire most about Maggie?

Connor: "I admire her personality. She is very compassionate, loyal and encouraging."

Maggie-- what's one of the things you admire most about Connor?

Maggie: "Connor is the most hardworking person I have ever met, and he always follows through on his word. His passion and drive for everything he sets his mind to is unmatched, and this translates to both his work and hobbies. He loves his job, and never says 'no' to the challenges he faces working in the agriculture industry. He comes home even after the longest days and makes sure we have everything we need at home. He works hard to spoil me with all my 'wants' and (rarely) says 'no' to my wildest dreams. His hardworking nature drives me to be abetter version of myself."

What was each yall's favorite part of the day?
Connor: Our first look. I had talked to Maggie on the phone multiple times that morning. I could not wait to see her and be alone for a few minutes. It was such a relief to be able to sit together, relax and laugh about how nervous and excited we were for the rest of the day."

Maggie: "My favorite part of the day was our first look and the time we had together prior to the ceremony. I was so against it when we first started planning, but knew it would settle my nerves to see Con first, and he really advocated for this time together. His reaction was so 'Connor,' and was the best feeling seeing him sigh a breath of relief when we were finally able to hug. Prior to the ceremony, we were able to pull away to my parent’s room and just take a few minutes to ourselves to talk. We giggled about the morning, talked about our nerves of the day, and just took the time to let everything seep in. All this time together before the ceremony didn't take away from the emotions I felt walking down the aisle and that we both felt standing at the altar (and Connor still teared up)!"

What's next for you two?
Maggie: "Our hope is to one day move back south to be closer to our families! We'd like to travel some, and eventually settle down with a family!!"

Hamiter-- family + adoption journey {2019}

Tell us how you and Trace met and a little more about your family:

Cassie: "Trace and I met at Auburn University in a weight lifting class! We became fast friends before we started dating the next year. We were married two weeks after graduation and will celebrate 15 years of marriage in May! He is my greatest earthly gift, and I am humbled and grateful to be chosen and pursued by him every single day.”

Cassie: “We are the proud parents of five stellar children the Lord has very graciously entrusted us with. Micah and Judah both came to us through the miracle of adoption while Taylor, Gray and Cayden through miracle of biological birth. We could not imagine our lives any different. God is the master Creator, and the way he has created our family humbles me to the core daily.  We are so undeserving of His good gifts, but graciously accept them in the light of the Cross.

Taylor is 12, and our little right hand mama! She loves her brothers so well! Her gentle spirit, fierce love for justice and for all people of all walks of life, and desire to know more of Him is an inspiration to us daily.

Gray is 9, and is extremely thoughtful and selfless. He loves all things sports, but his favorites are very intricately following college football and basketball! His love for others and desire to befriend the least of these flows out of him authentically.

Micah is 8, and you can't help but to have a good time when he's around! He is the toughest kid I know-- full of grit and an extremely hard worker-- just like his daddy. Micah asks the best questions, loves one on one time and is super hard to catch him without a smile. His true JOY for life is so contagious.

Cayden is 7, and is fearless, brave, a risk taker and up for any adventure you throw his way. He is a social butterfly and the way he includes people is humbling. Cayden is deeply loyal and a noticer of details and people.

Judah is 2, and is the beloved baby of the family. We just came home with him from India two short months ago. He is extremely resilient and catches on to things so fast. He is SO snuggly and is smothered in love by all his siblings. He loves to eat all the time, and gives hugs and kisses any chance he gets.

We also have another daughter, Avery, who we lost in 2008-- and is now dancing at the feet of Jesus.”

Did you have expectations of how many kids you would have before you got married?

Cassie: "Trace and I always joke about this. He always says, 'She wanted four— I wanted two—so we compromised with four!' Now, we have added one more to make five :) and Trace would have 10 if we could."

When did adoption become a part of yall's story?

Cassie: "I always had a deep desire to adopt. When we started talking about it, adoption wasn't something Trace had given much thought, but shortly after we prayed about it, he was all in.  We started the adoption process for Micah in 2012. We came home from China with him in November of 2013."

Tell us a little about your newest adoption:

Cassie: "In 2015, we started our second adoption in Haiti. We invested a lot of heart, finances and time into Haiti, but the Lord closed that door in December of 2017. While it was heartbreaking and confusing to navigate, we were sure and confident that we didn't have it 'wrong' to enter into Haiti, and to stay there as long as we did, but that the Lord was taking us in a different direction and it just wasn't right anymore. We believe our hearts will always be connected to Haiti, and it was a joy and honor to get to petition the Father for the orphan population in Haiti, as well as the people and country itself. We followed His lead to India in January of 2018 and were matched with the most precious big brown eyed 14-month-old, we would later name Judah Austin. We traveled to pick him up and brought him home in February of 2019.”

Do you have any words of wisdom for those wanting to adopt?

Cassie: "I know the process looks daunting, long, financially and emotionally strenuous from the beginning-- BUT I will tell you, at the end-- it's like a drop in the bucket because you have this precious life who has been miraculously entrusted to you and you can't imagine life without them. PRAY and TRUST. There are many unknowns, long waits, setbacks and unexpected turns for the better or worse— but we serve a sovereign God who doesn't change, and His faithfulness and provision is constant. He will sustain you and give you the grace you need, for every day, one day at a time. The whole process is a gift really. The Lord reveals His faithfulness and love to you and for you in a completely different way. Your heart is stretched in a million different directions, and you are daily reminded that we are created to need Jesus daily and be filled by Him alone."

Any advice for new parents to the adoption adventure?

Cassie: "Be flexible and throw those expectations out the window! Your sweet baby-- no matter where they were born and how old they are-- has experienced trauma in their little life that most likely you or I have ever known. Trust, trust, trust in the One who loves your baby more than you could ever even fathom and knows every day of their life. ASK Him for that trust in Him if you lack it or lack the faith. He is so faithful-- so so faithful-- to meet you right where you are at and carry you. God is not a duplicator, so if this is not your first child, don't expect things to go the same way. Be flexible and give a little or a lot where you need to. Choose joy, choose thankfulness and choose patience. Ask for help! You are not weaker if you ask for help from your agency professionals, team of doctors and most of all your family and community. We are created to be interdependent, so don't forget you and your spouse were never meant to do this on your own! People want to love you and serve you, sometimes they just don't know how. I feel like I could go on and on about what the Lord has shown me and how He's refined me through parenthood-- and specifically through adoption-- but my last bit of advice would be to just remember grace. There will be some days when you can't remember how to function as a human, much less to be grateful or gracious, but take a moment, at least one moment, every day to remember to dish out the grace for yourself. I'm a strong believer in the grace that has been lavished on us through Jesus, and He so badly wants you to see that for yourself. So, in the good and bad, high and low-- there is always grace from the Giver of all good gifts and the One who never grows weary."

Matthew + Kristin {married four years} :: Centreville, Ala.

Tell us how you two met and when you got married.

Kristin: "We met January 2010 in a history class at The University of Alabama. We dated throughout college, but broke up spring 2012 for two years. We reconnected in May of 2014 right before Matthew was moving to Japan! He flew me out in September, came back and proposed. We got married a week after on January 31, 2015 in a courthouse with just our parents! It was the sweetest, stripped down, most intimate ceremony and so special! He deployed to Afghanistan a few weeks later, and we had a big (second) wedding September 26, 2015 before I moved and joined him in Japan. We lived there for three years and have currently been back in the states living in Chattanooga, TN for a year."

Matthew: "Freshman year Western Civ. She used me for notes and homework help. The arrangement worked so well she decided to marry me."

Four years into marriage with two kids-- is life what you thought it would look like? How is it what you expected or different?

Matthew: "Life has never been what I thought it would be. So far, the good Lord has thwarted every plan I had made up in my mind, and I couldn't be happier with that. My plans have come and gone (lifelong bachelor/grizzled mercenary was my plan right before Kristin and I got married), and I am so glad that none of them came to fruition. I could have never anticipated the gifts I have been given in my wife and children, and I thank God every day for them."

Kristin: "Yes and no. I always knew I wanted to be a wife and mother. There were times when I thought Matthew would be my husband and a season where I thought that was impossible. Matthew has and will always be the best earthly gift I’ve received from God. Our children come VERY close after. He is the perfect picture of grace and Christ’s redeeming love. We also said we wanted to wait to have children for five years after marriage, but one day Matthew looked at me and said he wanted a baby-- so that changed! We lost our first baby, and it broke our heart, but it solidified our desire to have lots of babies. I never thought I’d be driving a minivan, staying home with two kids 13 months apart right now, but I really wouldn’t have it any other way. (OBSESSED WITH MY MINIVAN YALL!) We’ve been across the world and back again, gone through a combat deployment, many mini deployments and time apart, lost a child, birthed two, career changes, back to school— and we have felt God’s hand through it all. I’m just really grateful that I am not the author of my story because even though there is hurt, grief, and ugliness in our story— the beauty we have experienced is far better than anything I could have imagined up for myself."

Is there any lesson you feel you are learning in this season of life?

Matthew: "All the lessons. The most trying one is definitely patience. I have zen like patience now compared to pre-children me, and I still have a long way to go in anticipation of having a teenage daughter."

Kristin: "The beauty and blessing of authentic, faith driven community. We received really good advice from a couple from our church in Japan who we really looked to as mentors. They raised six incredible boys, lived all over the world, and it was an honor to learn from them in marriage, parenthood and faith. They told us that where ever you are-- immediately join a Bible believing church in your community and pour into it. That is the first thing we did. Knowing we wanted to attend a PCA church, we went to the one in our neighborhood (St. Elmo Presbyterian Church) and never looked back. It has blessed us tremendously through Bible studies, small group, current youth leaders, and being discipled by our pastor. We have felt SO loved on by our church community.

In that same regard, a community of moms is VITAL. Being a mom of little ones is hard, and can feel lonely and isolating if you let it. Get out of your house. Find your people that you can do life with in PJs, with spit up on your shirt and three-day old make up. Those people that will encourage you through the four-month sleep regression, toddler tantrums/discipline and love your babies like their own. The ones that point you to Jesus when you feel weak. They come to your house and hold your newborn so you can shower and bring Chick-fil-a. They give you hand-me-downs from their kids! They don’t judge your choices in motherhood because we all know we are just doing the best we can. When husbands are out of town, they become your support, and you help each other get to nap times and bedtimes together. It REALLY takes a village, so seek out your village and USE IT!"

What does your family enjoy doing together?

Matthew: "Eating and taking walks. Also listening to Praise Baby (TM) on repeat."

Kristin: "Anything outside! We love going to Matthew’s family land (where these pictures were taken), going on walks/hikes, taking the kids to the playground, playing in our backyard or front porch. Honestly, as cheesy as it sounds, we truly just love intentional time together no matter where it is!"

What's advice you give to someone engaged and planning their wedding?

Matthew: "For the guy (I'll stay in my lane), say 'yes' to everything. Pick a few things you want in the wedding (keep it simple), so that you seem engaged, and don't take it personally when they get denied. Just roll with everything while constantly nodding your head North and South."

Kristin: "As much time you feel like you have to prepare for the 'wedding,' make sure you are also preparing for the marriage. A wedding is a day-- a marriage is a lifetime. Make sure you are establishing a firm foundation. Marriage isn’t and shouldn’t be built on the foundation of a beautiful wedding-- it should be founded on Jesus. It’s not wrong to want a special day to celebrate your love for one another, but try to remember what it is about. Seek Christ first in every season."

What's advice you'd give to newly married couples in their first year of marriage?
Kristin: "Say 'yes.' Don’t be afraid to jump out of your comfort zone. Those are the things that will strengthen you as a couple. Best thing I ever did was say yes to moving to Japan. Was it scary? Yes, absolutely. But it really strengthened our marriage. It helped us not baby step into marriage-- we jumped in full on and it has blessed us. Also, find your community. Nothing has enriched us more than being involved in a Bible teaching church. Seek wisdom from older couples who are actively pursuing each other and Jesus. Trials will come, you need support from people that will push you to each other and Jesus! We are currently going through  discipleship/counseling with our pastor studying Sonship together, and it has been the right kind of 'hurts so good' in a season of craziness with these littles!"

Matthew: "The wedding advice still applies. Only this time, it applies to the new house, dinner plans, basically everything. Happy wife = happy life."

Andy + Madeleine {wedding} :: Birmingham, Ala.

How did you two meet?

Madeleine: "We met at UAB hospital sometime in 2015 when he was a resident and I was a nurse. I don't remember the first time we met, but I do remember the first time he asked me out. We had both been taking care of a very sick patient and he sat in the patient's room with me all day and chatted with me. He asked me out at the end of the day as I was leaving work."

What are some things you and Andy enjoy doing together?

Madeleine: "We enjoy the pursuit of trying every restaurant and brewery in Birmingham, beating our friends during game nights, trying to find a time to both sit down to watch the latest show we've been binge watching, and listening to records chosen by DJ Andy."

How and when did Andy propose?

Madeleine: "Andy proposed on April 28 on a trip to Ireland. I suspected something was up when he refused to let his suitcase out of his sight when we on a bus on the way to our hotel. The actual proposal happened when we were driving the Ring of Kerry. Our guidebook pointed us to a vista that was supposed to have the most beautiful views in all of Ireland. Andy was very eager to go, but when we got there there were at least 3 tour busses, so he quickly suggested we get back in the car and keep driving. Finally we stopped at a vista that we could have all to ourselves and that's where he proposed."

Andy-- what's one thing you admire most about Madeleine?
Andy: "I admire Madeleine's optimism. She always puts a positive spin on things and is able to see the best in situations even when I'm not."

Madeleine-- what's one thing you admire most about Andy?
Madeleine: "I admire Andy's integrity. He always does the right thing, even when it's hard to do or unpleasant. This makes him such a good citizen and husband!"

What was each of yall's favorite part of the day?
Madeleine: "We both loved having all of our family and friends in the same room! During our ceremony, our pastor had us look out into the congregation and it was wonderful to see everyone we loved looking back at us. It is so reassuring to know we have the support of so many people as we begin our marriage!"

What’s next for you two?

Madeleine: “I am starting the doctor of nursing program at UAB in May and continuing to work as a nurse practitioner in the MICU at UAB. Andy will continue working as a hospitalist at St. Vincent’s.”

Mark + Mary Helen {wedding} Tunnel Springs, Ala.

How did you two meet?
Mary Helen: "It is hard to narrow down exactly when Mark and I first met. We grew up around the corner from each other and attended the same school. Our friendship began when he asked me to a school dance. We’ve been best friends ever since."

What was each yall's favorite part of the day?
Mary Helen: "My favorite part of the day was definitely seeing Mark for the first time. He was so nervous and excited to see me. It was truly a moment I’ll never forget. A close second was dancing with all of our friends and family in a very special to both of us. I rarely left the dance floor the whole night!"

Mark: "Ha as expected, my favorite part of the day was seeing Mary Helen for the first time. I was truly speechless when I turned around to see her."

Mark-- what's one of the things you admire most about Mary Helen?
Mark: "I admire her love of family. Family always comes first in everything she does. Coming from a big family, that means a lot to me. I feel as though we’ve been a part of each other’s family for quite some time now."

Mary Helen-- what's one of the things you admire most about Mark?
Mary Helen: "I admire the way Mark treats others. He is a quick friend and is always willing to help someone out. He is genuinely kind, and I couldn’t respect that more."

How and when did Mark propose?
Mary Helen: "Mark proposed on August 3, 2018. He planned a birthday dinner for me at the Grand Hotel in Point Clear. He invited all of our friends down for a 'surprise birthday party' for me-- which several responded, 'We love Mary Helen, but you want us to fly to Alabama for a birthday party??' They quickly figured out what he had up his sleeve."

I of course was running late to meet him before dinner, so by the time we arrived to the Grand it was right at sunset. He walked me down to the water and handed me a birthday present, which had a tiny box in the bottom. When I pulled the box out of the bag, I quickly handed it back to him knowing what was happening. He got down on one knee, and I said, 'yes,' immediately. He put so much thought into the proposal and the whole weekend. We had the best time celebrating with everyone!!"

What are some things y'all like to do together?
Mary Helen: "We love to cook and try new foods. We joke that eating is our hobby. We also spend a lot of time on the water here in Mobile. We have six nieces and nephews together that we enjoy watching grow up."

What's next for you two?
Mary Helen: "We hope to fit in as much traveling as possible in the next few years! We stay busy with endless house projects and our rambunctious golden retriever, Honey."

DJ + Rebecca {wedding :: Birmingham, Ala.}

How did you two meet?
Rebecca: "We met at UAB hospital! Our friends set us up on a date. My nurse friend on my unit (Maggie) and DJ’s resident doctor friend (Chad) were talking about finding someone sweet for DJ to date, and I am so thankful I came to their mind! I had heard he wanted to ask me on a date on the unit, and I was eagerly waiting. I thought he was really kind, smooth, confident and handsome ;)."

DJ: "As Rebecca mentioned, two of our wonderful friends set us up. I was so nervous and awkward, but also so excited to meet Rebecca. We spoke for the first time in the ICU, and she kindly agreed to go to dinner with me. I will never forget her smile and sweet heart-- it was truly love at first sight! Rebecca has been such an incredible blessing from our Lord, and she is truly a dream come true! (She is also the most beautiful woman in the world!!)"

How and when did DJ propose?
Rebecca: "He proposed the same place my parents got engaged-- at my grandparents’ lake house! It was August 4th, 2018. We had plans to meet DJ’s friends for dinner, but my Dad called on the way asking us to run by the lake and pick up his phone he left (which he actually did leave there in case I used Find My Friends app). He said he had a bad migraine and would get my brothers to meet us at the place we were going for dinner. I knew the proposal was coming soon, but honestly blocked it out as an option that night with DJ's grandmother was in the hospital and my friends said they were working or out of town. DJ had a table set up, overlooking the lake, with a book with all his journal entries and pictures from our time together, as well as a Bible with our names on it, candles and the ring. His sisters and my sister were hiding and taking pictures and Christmas lights were hanging on the trees (in August!). It was magical! He got down on one knee. I was shaking and almost forgot to say 'yes' I was so overwhelmed. And afterwards, we had a surprise engagement party at my parents house with our family and friends! They did an incredible job!! It was such a wonderful day!"

DJ--what's one of the things you admire most about Rebecca?
DJ: "One of the things that struck me most about Rebecca is that she is truly the sweetest person I have ever met. And that word, 'sweet'  is exactly how I described her to all of my family and friends when we first started dating. Rebecca is so thoughtful, giving, caring, serving, and incredibly loving, and she is such a joy to be around! She is truly such an amazing blessing from our Lord, and I do not deserve her!"

Rebecca-- what's one of the things you admire most about DJ?
Rebecca: "I love how DJ loves. DJ truly exemplifies Christ’s forgiving, joyous and pursuing love every day since we met--not only to me, but I have noticed him share this love with everyone he comes into contact with-- whether that be a friend, coworker, family member, patient, or stranger. I love how encouraging, joyful, positive, and caring he is too! I do not deserve such a man and never imagined someone could surpass all dreams, prayers, and expectations."

What are some things y'all like to do together?
DJ: “We love spending every possible minute together! We love taking walks/hikes, cooking, spending time with our awesome family and friends, watching funny TV shows, going to Church and praying together, and just being close to one another!”

What was each yall's favorite part of the day?
DJ: "I loved marrying the sweetest woman in the world and entering into the covenant of marriage in the presence of God and so many of our family and friends. It was the best day!"

Rebecca: "I loved walking down the aisle, focusing on DJ, seeing his unconditional love for me all over his tear-stained face. What a beautiful undeserving image we had the privilege to symbolize! Us, Christians, walking to our Lord washed white as snow, purified of all sin. And the pursuer, Jesus, waiting eagerly at the end. It was crazy thinking this was the last time I was walking down the aisle 'til heaven. We are so undeserving of His Love!"

What's next for you two?
Rebecca: “DJ and I are currently unpacking our house in Cahaba Heights! We are falling more in love with each passing day, building our lives together as One. DJ is continuing his Hematology-Oncology fellowship for 2 more years at UAB, and hopes to be a cancer doctor in Birmingham. I plan to continue working as an ICU nurse, with the goal of starting CRNA school if the Lord wills... and maybe start a family :)”

Casey + Bekah {wedding :: Montgomery, Ala.}

How did you two meet?
Bekah: "We first met at the 5 a.m. crossfit class at CrossFit Opelika, and that place will always hold special memories for the both of us. I remember thinking that Casey was very handsome, but I also thought he was loud. It was the start of football season, and he walked into the gym yelling how excited he was."

Casey: "I remember thinking Bekah was very, very, very pretty, but there was no way a girl like that was ever going to date me.”

How and when did Casey propose?
Bekah: "This story is probably best told by him, but Casey proposed to me on the beach on my birthday. I have always wanted to get married in December, and I told Casey I did not want to have a long engagement. So, after the proposal, he told me he tried to propose at a time that would allow both of those to happen-- but I had no idea he was going to propose or even that he bought a ring! I was completely in the dark. I knew we would get married, but I had NO idea when that would be."

Casey: I wanted to propose somewhere that was special for us. Bekah’s family was already planning a beach trip in May, so I asked her family if I could highjacked the family vacation with my proposal. The beach is her very favorite place to be, so I thought what better place… and it will even be on her birthday (which she will never see coming.) After deciding on the when and where, I arranged for my family and some of our closest friends to be staying/hiding at a beach house down the road from her family. Bekah was already down at the beach, and I was coming in from a conference and meeting her there. I got into town earlier and scoped out the perfect place on the beach for the proposals (and the perfect hiding place for my brother to take pictures). They were all getting ready for her 'birthday dinner.' She knew they were having a birthday dinner for her that evening-- what she didn’t know was that it would double as an engagement dinner. Once I got to the house, I sat down for all of two minutes then asked her to go on a walk on the beach with me because my legs were stiff from driving all day. We walked out on to the beach, and I made it about 10 steps before I dropped to one knee so quickly the indention may still be there."

Bekah: "I had no idea what was going on because he walked, seriously, two steps and said, 'You know I want to spend the rest of my life with you, right?' Then, I looked over, and he was on one knee."

Casey: "After three 'Is this real?' and a few steps forward and backwards, she finally said, 'yes!' Afterwards, we walked back up to the house where our family and friends were waiting with a surprise engagement party."

Casey-- what's one of the things you admire most about Bekah?
Casey: "I admire her dedication to everything she sets her mind to. I admire the love and patience she continually shows to me. I admire her work ethic in getting her doctorate, and I admire her relationship with Christ."

Bekah--what's one of the things you admire most about Casey?
Bekah: "I admire how genuine and giving Casey is in everything he does. He loves and cares about others-- especially his family. He is always willing to help when there is a need. I admire how hard he works, and I’m so proud of what he has accomplished. I admire his love for Christ."

What are some things y'all like to do together?
Bekah: "We like to workout together. Of course, this is a major part of both our lives, and we are glad we get to enjoy it together. We like staying in and watching movies. We love going on road trips and spending time together in the car. We enjoy spending time with each of our families. We enjoy going to church together, and we’ve enjoyed getting involved and serving as a married couple. I’m slowly turning Casey into a regular beach goer-- which is my favorite thing to do."

What was each yall's favorite part of the day?
Casey: "I had a lot of moments during the day that meant a lot to me and that I will always remember, but the first look was hands down my favorite."

Bekah: "The day was everything and nothing like I expected. I loved being able to share those special moments with my mom and sister, along with my bridesmaids. Showing my dad my dress for the first time (well second time) but first for that day. Being able to spend time and share memories with our closest friends and family throughout the whole day and then talking and dancing with those at the reception. But, my favorite part of the day was seeing Casey at the end of the aisle and saying, 'I do.' At the end of the day, we both agreed that becoming husband and wife in the eyes of God is the best memory and gift we received that day."

What's next for you two?
Bekah: "Casey would tell you we are off to train for the Avengers. A little movie humor– he’s a movie buff, and now I’m his permanent tag along that ask a lot of questions. But… in reality, we are returning to Kentucky (our current home) and will be there for at least the next two years. I am currently working on my PhD in Exercise Physiology at the University of Kentucky, and Casey is the director of strength and conditioning at Kentucky Christian University. We hope to move back to Alabama or at least the South as soon as I am finished with school. We are loving married life!"

Michael + Sarah {engagement}

How did you two meet?
Michael: "I met Sarah just over two years ago at a friend’s house where we gathered to
watch the Super Bowl. I just arrived from coaching a baseball practice and knew everyone that
was coming was either married or in a relationship, but that’s when I noticed Sarah by herself. I
couldn’t help but look at her in a sneaky non-creepy way, but I was too nervous to say a whole
lot to her. The following day I asked my friend about his 'home add-on,' but only with the
intentions to ask about Sarah-- which he then gave me her phone number. That evening I asked
her out, and I remember the first time I saw Sarah pulling in to the Firebird’s restaurant. She
came flying in as if she owned the place or was practicing for the Talladega 500 race, but I was
also surprised she showed up after I jokingly told her, "My mom had just dropped me off, and
that I was waiting on her”. We hit it off from the very beginning and from that point on I knew
she was a God-send, and I enjoy every second I’m with her!"

Sarah: "We met about two years ago at a mutual friends Super Bowl party. I remember
as soon as Michael walked in the door immediately asking my friend who he was and wanting to
know all the scoop she could let me know about him. He was the tall, dark, handsome and quiet
type from first glance, which made me really intrigued, so I introduced myself, but we really
didn’t talk much that night. I knew I thought he was cute, but I didn’t have a clue that he was
interested in me until the next day I got a text from my friend’s husband telling me that Michael
wanted to get my phone number. He texted me one day after that, and we went out on our first
date that week. Then, we started seeing each other almost every day after that."

How and when did Michael propose?
Michael: "I knew early on I was going to marry Sarah, and several ideas had crossed my mind. My original idea was to propose the Sunday before Thanksgiving when we all gathered at her family’s house, but time was not on my side. Afterwards, it was getting close to Christmas time, Sarah and I had planned to take Christmas pictures with our dog, Sasha, so we can send out Christmas cards. I knew right then my plans were to ask that important question. I reached out to Sarah’s friend, Kristin, whom took our pictures, and informed her of my plans, so we were on the same page. We began taking pictures in front of the town hall in Moss Preserve in Hoover, AL when I grabbed the ring and got down on one knee to asked her to marry me."

What are some things yall like to do together?

Michael: "One of the biggest attractions about Sarah was her passion for baseball because her father is a head baseball coach in Montgomery, AL, and I’ve played my whole life. We enjoy watching and going to baseball games, trying out new restaurants, watching movies, going to the hunting camp, visiting her family and my soon-to-be niece, Mary Landers, and being spontaneous by going on trips which we went to Ellijay, GA last year."

Michael—describe Sarah in three words.
Michael: "Loving, sweet and angelic. I know no one is perfect, but in my eyes, that’s what Sarah is to me. I've never met a more loving, caring and selfless person in my life. She brings out the best in myself and others-- and even on my worse day, she brightens it up the second I see her. I’ve heard the expressions that most marriages are people whom marry their best friends, and I thought that’s not usually the case. However, I can vouch for that now because I love tackling life with her. I enjoy the lazy nights in and the chaotic weekends vacuuming Sasha’s hair all over the house. I thank the Lord everyday for putting her in my life. Everything happens on the Lord’s timing and happens for a reason. Every morning I wake up smiling knowing that she makes this world a better place, and I’m grateful and blessed beyond measures to soon call her my wife!"

Sarah—describe Michael in three words.
Sarah: "Caring, patient and funny. He has pursued me through our entire relationship, and he always shows and tells me how much he loves and cares for me. I am so blessed that the Lord put this amazing man that I have prayed for in my life. He truly is the first person I want to share my good and bad days with. His jokes and personality always put a smile on my face, and it reminds me to not take life so seriously. He is patient in my indecisiveness and how I have no sense of direction-- that part will only make sense to him because I can never decide on where I want to go eat. Early on in our relationship, we met my parents at the SEC baseball tournament, and he tried to walk me to my car in the rain, but I forgot where I parked, so he patiently helped me for almost an hour tp find my car. Then, there was the first date that he told me his mom dropped him off at the restaurant, and I had no idea he was kidding-- but I almost didn’t want to show up for our date. I could go on and on about how this man is so special to me in the way he makes me feel loved, cared for, secure and lets me be me despite all my shortcomings and flaws. I can't wait until I get to marry my best friend that makes me a better person.”

Patrick + Claire {engagement} :: Pike Road, Ala.

How did you two meet?

Claire: “Patrick and I met the summer of 2014 when I interned with the youth group at First Baptist Church Montgomery. I worked under his dad, who was then the associate minister of music, and I remember him telling me he had a son my age. We ended up spending time together at youth camp that summer, and that's where our friendship really began. We kept up some after that summer, but life happens and we went on doing our own thing. It was 2017 when things changed for both of us. I came home from Tennessee, where I was living at the time, for a weekend to help lead a group for Disciple Now at First Baptist. Patrick was also a leader that weekend. Let's just say, seeing him for the first time in a long time brought back lots of butterflies. I ended up moving back to Montgomery a few months later, and he asked me on a date. I don't think a day has gone by since then that we haven't spent time together. I never would have thought that a small summer job would lead me to meeting my future husband!”

Patrick: “Claire and I met at First Baptist Montgomery while she was a youth intern during the summer of 2014. My dad had recently become the associate minister of music at First Baptist, and I had just moved to Montgomery to transfer from Auburn to AUM. Claire and I became good friends after spending some time together at youth camp that summer. We always knew how to make each other laugh, and that's how I knew we would be good friends. Fast forward three years--I saw her at Disciple Now where we were both leaders and found out she was moving back to Montgomery from Nashville that spring. After catching up that weekend and in the weeks that followed, I realized I wanted to pursue a serious relationship with her.”

How and when did Patrick propose?

Claire: "Patrick proposed on October 27, 2018. One of my most cherished places is the little town where my daddy grew up. My grandfather has some land there, and Pat and I love to go down there with my family and ride through the woods, sit around a bonfire, fish (yes, I fish with him), or really anything that let's us enjoy the beautiful scenery. That day wasn't different from any other times we had been at the farm. My siblings were home from college for fall break, and my mom said she wanted us all to go down there and spend time together. Patrick's parents came, but that wasn't out of the ordinary either. We even brought some of our friends, but I accidentally orchestrated that myself. We enjoyed the day with the people we loved, and when we were all sitting around a bonfire, right before the sun was setting, Patrick told me he wanted to take a walk. I immediately froze and asked him why, but he said he just wanted to talk about his job, so I went along. We went to this little bench that looks over the water and sat down, but I realized he wasn't really saying anything that made sense. That's when I got suspicious. We stood up after awhile to walk back and he grabbed my hand, said a bunch of sweet things that I didn't really hear, and got on his knee to ask me to marry him. The special part was that we got to celebrate with both of our families and some of our closest friends. I will never forget that day!"

Patrick: "On October 22, 2018, I told my parents I was going to buy a ring for Claire. We had been dating nearly a year and a half and through prayer, I knew that God had revealed to me that she would be my wife. I bought a ring the next day and went to ask for her dad's blessing. I planned the whole thing out with her parents and mine, as well as my best friend, Garrett, and his wife, Krista. Claire obviously knew none of this, and she asked Garrett and Krista if they wanted to go down to her family's farm in the town that her dad grew up in. I knew the perfect spot to ask her--next to a bench her grandfather had had made, looking out at the lake. We spent the day with our families and friends and when the sun began to set, I asked her to go on a walk. Once we got to the spot, I dropped to one knee and asked her to marry me. She said yes and we sat on the bench and prayed together before celebrating with our families and friends."

What are some things you two enjoy doing together?

Claire: "We like to go hiking but also to cozy up and watch movies. We love watching Friends or The Office and football and basketball. We like spending time with our family and friends and our new nephew. We go to church together each week and we love to pray together. We love singing really loud in the car, especially all of the old patriotic songs. We love to just be together and learn more about each other than we knew the day before."

Claire-- describe Patrick in three words.

Claire: "Patrick is kind-hearted, selfless and trustworthy."

Patrick-- describe Claire in three words.

Patrick: "Claire is beautiful, supportive and irreplaceable."

Hunter + Lorin {engagement :: Huntsville, Ala.}

How did you two meet?
Lorin: "Hunter and I first met when we were in sixth grade at Huntsville Middle School. I used to think Hunter was soooo cute with his long bowl cut and huge cow lick. Shortly after meeting, we became boyfriend and girlfriend, and then we attended our first middle school spring dance together. Our sixth grade fling only lasted a few months, and then we remained friends throughout middle and high school. For a few years after high school, we lost touch and would occasionally run into each other hanging out with mutual friends when Hunter would come home on breaks from school. My son, Grayson and I moved into a new house around the same time Hunter moved back to Huntsville from chiropractic school. We ended up being next-door neighbors. Like, right next door. For the first few weeks of being neighbors, Hunter, Grayson and I spent every night sitting out back talking and hanging out. Our dogs even became best friends! It didn't take long before I had fallen in love with my neighbor."

Hunter:  "I came home on break from school and saw Lorin at a mutual friend's party. I hadn't seen Lorin in about five years or more, and I remember thinking: 'My gosh! She is so hot! I need to rekindle this middle school dream.' We ended up keeping in touch throughout the last couple of years of school. After moving back to Huntsville, we ended up being next-door neighbors and have been together ever since."

How and when did Hunter propose?
Lorin: "Hunter proposed on the Fourh of July. We had no plans for the holiday and were just going to 'go with the flow.' (Hunter's idea) I am the type of person that needs to have a plan and know exactly what we are going to do, but I agreed to relax and enjoy the day. We spent the day at Hunter's parents' house hanging out by the pool with our friends, Alex and Brooke. Apparently throughout the day, Hunter and Alex had been working on a plan for all of us to go watch a firework show from one of their office building rooftops. I had no idea what was going on and actually was panicking that we were going to miss the fireworks! Once we were there, the view on the rooftop was amazing! We were overlooking the Space & Rocket Center and next thing I know, Hunter was down on one knee! I had absolutely no idea! It was such a surprise and so special. I am so glad that we had our friends there to share that special moment with us."

What are some things y'all like to do together?
Lorin: "Everything. We really do love doing pretty much anything together. Hunter and I just enjoy laughing, joking around and having a good time together! We both love summertime, the outdoors and anything that involves being on the water-- so really enjoy taking the boat out on the lake, being at the beach or just hanging out by the pool. Hunter has a two-year-old Lab and I have a two-year-old GSP/Weimaraner who are best friends! We love taking them to swim and just letting them run around together. Hunter has SO MANY hobbies. He loves golfing, fishing, hunting, so I often tag along with him. Overall, we just love having fun!"

Lorin-- describe Hunter in three words:

Funny-- this is the first word that comes to my mind when describing Hunter because it is probably one of the qualities I love most about him. Hunter makes me laugh hysterically on a daily basis. There is never a dull moment at home with him...EVER. He makes life fun, and I can't wait to spend forever laughing with him every day.

Caring-- this is one of the qualities that made me fall in love with Hunter. He has such a big heart! He is always willing to help anyone and everyone and genuinely cares about the feelings of others. He is the greatest partner and the most amazing step-dad to Grayson. From taking Grayson hunting, going to baseball and basketball games, or just playing video games together-- it makes my heart so happy to see how much Hunter cares and loves. Grayson and I are so blessed to have him!

Positive-- Hunter is a positive person in many different ways. He is so laid-back, caring and funny that he brings such a positive energy every where he goes, which is one of the many things I love about him. Hunter also has such a positive outlook on life. No matter how crazy and hectic a situation may be, Hunter is always so optimistic.

Hunter-- describe Lorin in three words.

Firecracker-- Lorin is hot like a firecracker. She has always been a very strong minded woman who has never been afraid to speak her mind. She is fearless and forthright. She is loud and outspoken, and always a joy to be around. She is my little firecracker.

Thoughtful-- anyone who knows Lorin, knows that she wears her heart on her sleeve. She is considerate, attentive and always in some way looking out for others. She is very in-tune with her emotions and believe me-- she is not scared to shed a few tears.

Mother-- above all, Lorin is a mother. She is caring, loving and supportive. She will be at every sporting event or after school activity even if it means missing a little sleep. She cares more about supporting and caring for us as a family than she does for her own self.

Austin + Jacee {wedding} :: Selma. Ala.

How did you two meet?

Jacee: "Austin and I initially met this side of a turn-row in the heart of the Mississippi Delta under the smoldering heat of the sun. We were in Leland, MS for a field day surrounded by soybeans, corn and cotton. We shared lunch and a conversation under a big, white tent. After this day, I wouldn’t get to visit with Austin again until a year later.

Fast forward to a Young Farmers meeting in the middle of nowhere, Alabama. I am the speaker for the evening at a camp house with mostly men. Working and being involved in agriculture, this is something I have become used to on a Thursday night. Earlier in the week, one of my customers took me to Austin’s family farm where I met with his brother in the hayfield to visit their cattle operation. My customer had told me about Austin, and how he had just graduated from Auburn and was back on the farm. He also put in a good word about him. At the meeting, I was hoping Austin would show. I remembered how enjoyable he was to be around and the thought provoking conversations we had a year ago in the Delta. As we were getting ready to eat our burgers and start the program, Austin walked into the meeting last minute.

After the meeting, it was late and I still had quite the drive to make home. Starting down highway 80, my phone rang and the number that showed up was not recognized. Typically, I let these numbers go to voicemail, but decided to answer. Low and behold, it was Austin, calling to check on me and make sure I was getting home okay. During our conversation, he politely asked me to spend time with him and some of his family that weekend.

Next thing you know we are spending more and more time together. A few weeks after we had started spending time, Austin and I attended a small-town rodeo. We watched the young cowboys try their hand at calf roping from the tailgate of a truck. Afterward, we danced to a live band and had a great time. The next day, Austin asked me to be his girlfriend. I knew the connection and relationship Austin and I had was special. He is exactly who I’ve been praying for in a partner. The first time I met Austin, I knew he was a genuine and purposeful person. I was captivated by our conversations and his politeness toward me. His character, personality and attitude helped me realize what qualities are important in a future spouse and life partner.”

How and when did Austin propose?

Jacee: "Austin asked me to marry him on March 10, 2018. He asked under my favorite Spanish moss tree in the middle of a pasture on the farm.

For months, Austin had told me to be prepared for his brother’s surprise birthday the day he asked. He had it lined up where I was going to help his sister-in-law with their new baby girl, Ellis, while she prepared for the party. I had the Alabama State Cattlemen’s convention this day, as well. Driving to the farm from the convention, it rained on me the entire way. Once I got to the farm, it was cool and calm and the rain had stopped. I arrived and got dressed to go to his brother’s surprise party. On our way, he asked if I minded going to look at hayfields they had sprayed earlier in the week with a product I manage. I travel most of the time for my job, so this request did not seem out of the ordinary. However, I didn’t want to be late to help with the baby, but he insisted we had a little time.

As we drove through the pastures to the hayfields, he was asking me recommendations on when to spray for weed control and which products to use. Then, he stopped the truck and asked me to get out and look at a typical 'prairie' weed- Cherokee Rose. This species is commonly found throughout the Blackbelt or Prairie region of Alabama, and I think it is the toughest weed producers are faced with! To my pleasant surprise, we weren’t going to look at that species of rose.

We walked up to the big tree covered in Spanish moss and the trunk was covered in a beautiful floral display. Before Austin got down on one knee, he described me using the letters of the name, read the sweetest letter he wrote to me, and we had the most heartfelt conversation. He pulled the ring out of his cowboy boot and the rest in history! I have never felt more overcome by peace and the presence of God until this day. Austin’s brother, sister-in-law and lifelong friend were hiding out in the pasture capturing the candidness of the proposal and we are fortunate to have most of it on camera!

After the proposal, we called family and close friends to share the news. Then, Austin had another surprise in the form of an after proposal party with some of our friends and family! We are truly surrounded by such a great support system who show us love, kindness and Godly direction.”

Jacee--what's one of the things you admire most about Austin?

Jacee: "There are many things I admire about Austin-- it’s hard to pick just one! Overall, I admire Austin for his work ethic, purposeful attitude and sincere thoughtfulness toward others. Austin gets up every morning with a driven spirit that lingers through the day. He will do what is expected of him and then some-- he goes the extra mile. Austin keeps his word and is someone you can count on. He doesn’t just say something to speak-- he truly seeks to listen to understand. You can bet what comes out of his mouth has a purpose. He is the type of person that would do anything for anyone and genuinely cares about people. I am thankful God put him in my life and we get to take on this life as husband and wife!"

Austin-- what's one of the things you admire most about Jacee?

Austin: "There are many things I admire about Jacee to pick just one. I would say Jacee’s determination. She is very motivated. Which can be a difficult thing for many people. She makes it seem easy."

What was each yall's favorite part of the day?

Austin: "Our day as whole was very special. One of my favorite parts was saying our vows in the presence of the Lord and our family and friends."

Jacee: "The whole day couldn’t have been more perfect. It’s hard to pick just one thing out of the day as my favorite part. One of the most special parts for both of us was not only saying our vows under the presence of God, but also in the church we were both baptized in. I have never felt so overwhelmed by the presence of God until this day. His grace over poured on us, literally, as it rained that morning and tornadoes that afternoon. Despite the forecast, there was no worry or concern of the conditions in my mind. It actually turned out nice and sunny that afternoon, and it was 75 degrees that evening for our outdoor tent reception in December! I think that is a perfect example of no matter the circumstances in life, God’s plan for each of our lives will prevail. There is no need to worry because He has it all worked out. I am so grateful for His plan for us! Another favorite part of our day that exemplified God’s glory, was when all of our family and friends joined us to sing a couple verses of “How Great Thou Art” before we said our vows. The worship was moving for both of us to have so many special people in our lives share such a sacred moment with us."

What are some things you two like to do together?

Jacee: "We like to do just about anything together, but here are some of our favorites: check the pivots in the corn and soybean fields, ride through the cows, watch John Wayne westerns, fish for bass and hunt turkeys and deer."

What's next for you two?

Jacee: "We live on a farm in west Alabama (the prairie) and raise crops and cattle. Specifically, we grow corn and soybeans, and Jacee sells agriculture products. We are excited to continue life as one with God leading our life!"

Cody + Laura Jean {The journey to Emmy Lou}

How did you two meet and when did y'all get married?

Laura Jean: "We met in fourth period English class in eleventh grade. He was the new guy at our highschool. We ended up dating towards the end of our senior year and married a little over four years later!"

Did you have "plans" for you and Cody once y'all got married? How has that lined up with your reality now?

Laura Jean: "OH YES! We had lots of plans. I was planning to be a youth minister in Memphis, TN. Cody wanted to do something along the lines of accounting, but wasn't sure what that looked like at the time. I ended up not getting the job in Memphis, and Cody ended up with a desk job doing audits and renewals. Needless to say, after a lot of 'no's' we just dove into what we could get and made side plans of our own. When it comes to me and Cody, the side plans just keep brewing. Never did we think we would run a sidewalk coffee cart or renovate houses or even still live in Montgomery. Honestly we are not doing anything that we thought we would be doing. I seriously cannot make up some of the crazy stuff we have done, and the opportunities we have encountered that all kind of grew out of a place of not getting what we hoped for. God is interesting like that."

Tell us about your journey to begin having children.

Laura Jean: "I think having children was one of those things that I just thought, 'Oh, when we are ready, it'll just happen.' That is not our story. I am very open and willing to share that I have stage 3 endometriosis. Throughout college, I dealt with unbelievable pain that just was never explained. We were told after my first surgery (after they discovered my case) that we needed to have children ASAP. And we just... well— couldn't. The pain returned, and the same story: surgery, doctors said, 'have babies' and we, again— couldn't.

Through a long story and series of events, we ended up at a different practice outside of the city. This doctor was able to hand more attention to my case and find better solutions to what I was dealing with so that I could see that there was hope to have children.

But honestly, I know it was the Lord.

My doctor in town looked at my records when I was 14 weeks pregnant and said, 'This is truly a miracle that you have conceived. Praise God that this has happened." I know we talked to good people who prayed. We believed and hoped and cried and got offended by people— we did all the steps that so many walk through.

...But there is nothing our God cannot do, and I know this baby is a product of who Jesus is and the faith of so many who believed FOR us to have a baby.”

What's a piece of advice you'd give couples who are desiring to have children?

Laura Jean: "Something Cody and I used to say to each other was, 'Someone else's story is not mine, but my story is GOOD.' It was a way for us to stay focused on what we needed to pray for and not hear terrible stories and doubt what God was able to do. It was a way to not sink into self-pity when someone, 'accidentally got pregnant and we were told, 'This might not happen for you.'

More than anything, give yourself some grace. Give yourself patience and know that there is so much to lean into and pour your life into while you wait. The Lord is in the beginning, the journey and the final result. Try to just find the Lord in every step. He is there and good and showing off every single day."

What's one thing you are most looking forward to once Emmy Lou arrives?

Cody: "It's exciting being able to know that you are about to raise a human and have a tremendous impact on the way she see things— and also how she will help us see things. I can't wait for all the change and learning how to adapt with her in our lives.

I cannot wait just to meet this little person— to see her face and think of how many people prayed her here. I can't wait to see what traits she inherits from us and how she makes the world brighter. I know Jesus knows her so well already  and I am excited to know her too."

Zane + Kasey {engagement}

How did you two meet?

Kasey: "We meet online after encouragement from close friends to join a dating app. The first time I met Zane, based off our conversation, I could tell he really enjoyed serving others, was very intelligent and could hold a great conversation with inquiring questions."

Zane: "On our first date, I remember thinking that Kasey was a great conversationalist, and that I definitely wanted to spend more time with her."

How did Zane propose?

Kasey: "Zane proposed on September 15, 2018. Earlier in the week, he has asked to take me on a date and said that we were going somewhere nice. He told me he'd pick me up Saturday evening. We went to downtown Montgomery where we spent many coffee dates after work walking from Dexter Avenue to the River Front amphitheater. Once downtown, he asked if we could go for a walk as we had some time before our reservation at Central. We walked to an overlook of the river where he proposed."

What are some things you two enjoy doing together?

Kasey: "We enjoy drinking a good cup of coffee, listening to and discussing podcasts, and finding the best tacos in town."

Zane— what’s one thing you admire most about Kasey?

Zane: "The thing I admire most about Kasey is how much she cares about people-- not just her friends and family, but each new person she meets. She genuinely wants to get to know everyone, learn about thier life and struggles, then help them however she can. Kasey has an excellent memory for every detail of a conversation because she really does care about each person she talks with."

Kasey— what’s one thing you admire most about Zane?

Kasey: "There are many things to admire about Zane. However, some of his most admirable qualities are his patience, how hard working he is and how much he enjoys serving others. He is also always learning something. Zane is very patient with me and a great listener at all times-- always being slow to speak and quick to listen. Zane is an extremely hard working along with how well he serves me and others daily. Zane is always learning and sharing with me so that I can learn with him. As Zane’s fiancé and future wife, I know that he will continue to bless me with these qualities with his patience, servanthood and continuing to teach me all that he’s learning."
